Chapter 22: The Field and The Sky

“Tomorrow” however, was too early for Lillin. She laid in bed for two days before finally regaining consciousness. The three adventurers prepared to set out once Lillin had fully recovered. They thanked the kind woman for letting them stay and bid her and her children farewell.

“So, we’re heading to another village?” asked Leo.

“Yes,” Grunt answered. “We will continue on protecting villages while searching for the other destined children.”

Leo thought about it for a while then blurted out, “What if you are the fourth destined child? We’ve been journeying together and Lillin turned out to be one of the destined children too!”

“What do you mean?” Lillin interrupted.

“Don’t you remember anything?” asked Leo.

Lillin shook her head. “None at all. All I remember was that we were fighting a huge force of undead.”

“You killed most of them in a single attack,” Grunt said.

Lillin was surprised. “Really? I don’t understand. What happened?”

“Do you remember charging up your rifle for one final attack?” Grunt explained. “Instead of your usual electric cannon, a gust of green cloud was released by your rifle. It seemed to be a very strong poison that killed a majority of the undead.”

Lillin remained silent.

“Grunt said you may be one of the destined children. And I think you are!” Leo said smiling.

“I am not yet sure about it but it seems that what triggered your hidden ability was the same as Chris and Leo,” Grunt speculated. “The elements that the three of you were able to control are different. If you are indeed a destined child, then the last one should be the one controlling the element of fire.”

“I’m still not sure about me being a destined child, but if one of the destined children controls fire, how are we supposed to distinguish him from all other pyromancers?” asked Lillin. “Among the four elements, fire was successfully passed on up to our time.”

“I don’t know,” Grunt said. “Let’s just hope that he stands out from the crowd.”

After two hours of walking, they saw sparkles and flashes of white and red in a distant field.

“What is that? It looks awesome!” Leo said with excitement.

“Come on! Let’s see what’s happening there,” said Grunt.

Chapter 21: The Gentle Poison

“Fall back!” Grunt ordered. “There are still too many of them for us to fend off.”

Leo and Grunt started to retreat but Lillin stayed behind.

Grunt noticed it and shouted, “Lillin! What are you doing? Fall back!”

“I’m not letting this village fall!” exclaimed Lillin. “Nature, please give me strength!”

Lillin charged up her rifle with all of her energy. The undead rushed towards her like a horde of wolves preying on a single sheep.

“Lillin, run! Your electric cannon will not work against them!” Grunt said while running towards Lillin to save her.

After completely charging up, Lillin fired her rifle. A strong gust of green cloud went out of the rifle which suffocated the undead. The raiders went down to their knees one by one, then died painfully and slowly. Only a handful in the rear survived the attack. Lillin collapsed due to exhaustion.

“Leo! Take care of her and make sure nobody comes near,” Grunt said. “I’ll kill all the remaining ones.”

Grunt easily defeated all the remaining undead then went back to see Lillin’s condition.

“Lillin is so strong! I never knew she had that ability!” Leo said with excitement.

Grunt nodded. “I was surprised myself. Perhaps, she is also one of the destined children.”

“Really? That’s great!!” Leo got even more excited.

“It’s still too early to say so, but at least we’re safe,” said Grunt. “Let’s go back to the woman’s house and let Lillin rest.”

Grunt carried Lillin and went back to the woman’s house together with Leo. He laid Lillin to a bed while Leo knocked on the floor where the small compartment is located. The lid opened slightly. When the mother saw that it was Leo, she slowly went outside and asked what happened.

“Are you sure?” asked the mother.

“Yes. The village is safe for now,” said Grunt. “The other villagers need not hide inside these small compartments at night and you can also ask the other villagers who left to return.”

The mother let out a sigh of relief and asked her children to go out of the compartment. “Thank you so much, adventurers! We will forever be grateful. You may come here anytime if you need anything.”

“Thank you so much, Madam. We will probably just rest here tonight and leave tomorrow once our comrade has recovered,” Grunt said politely.

Chapter 20: Against All Odds

Night came and it was very peaceful and quiet. The villagers who stayed behind went down to their small compartments to hide and sleep. Grunt, Lillin, and Leo waited near the village gate and prepared themselves for the arrival of the undead.

“Do you think they will come back?” asked Lillin.

Grunt shrugged his shoulders. “I am not sure but it’s better to stay here for at least one night. We might also find some clues.”

The three waited for several more hours. At around twelve midnight, silhouettes rose from a nearby field. Leo immediately prepared his widgets and scattered them outside the gate covering a large area.

“Judging from their figure, it looks like they are indeed, the undead,” Grunt said.

Lillin and Grunt hid behind the village walls while Leo remained visible from outside. The undead saw him and rushed towards him. Their numbers are overwhelming and their faces are terrifying. Among them are the Skeleton Knights, Zombies, and Shadow Bats. When the front was almost near the gate, Leo activated his widgets. A tremendous electric current ran through each of the small widgets, releasing a devastating electrical attack. The raiding undead were electrocuted and couldn’t move, but only the shadow bats died from the attack.

“Grunt! Lillin! Help!” cried Leo.

Lillin and Grunt immediately went outside and saw what happened.

“Since when did the undead become immune to lightning attacks?” Lillin asked in confusion.

“I don’t know but we have no time to waste!” Grunt said. “Kill as many of them as possible while they still can’t move.”

Almost immediately after Grunt said this, the undead started to move.

“Leo, can you activate the widgets again?” asked Grunt.

“I’ve only used it once at the most, but I’ll try it again,” Leo said.

The widgets then released another strong electric current.

“Lillin, continuously fire at them with or without the electric current!” Grunt ordered. “They are electrified for ten seconds at the most. I will kill as many as I can near the gate and return inside before they can move again. Leo, activate it once they start running again!”

All three followed Grunt’s strategy and were able to kill a quarter of the enemy force. However, when Leo activated the widgets for the fourth time, the widgets shattered into pieces. The undead rushed towards the gate with frenzy.

Chapter 19: Dusk and Darkness

The mother cried, “Oh my beloved husband… is he still alive?”

“We don’t know. But you should evacuate now since there are nobody else here,” answered Grunt.

“Not all villagers left the village. Many houses here have small compartments so there should still be a number of people here who are just hiding,” said the mother.

“Can you tell us what exactly happened?” asked Lillin.

Wiping her tears away with her hands, the mother replied, “We were sleeping very peacefully last night. Suddenly, we were awoken by screams from nearby. We found out that the undead was raiding our village.”

“Undead? I thought most of them perished a few years ago,” Lillin said with surprise.

“And we were gravely mistaken,” added the woman. “My husband and some other men quickly took their swords to repel the undead. Some of the villagers ran away while others hid in these small compartments.”

“I see,” Grunt remarked. “With all the recent happenings, I can only say that someone or something must be controlling them. Forest animals attacking other people, enemy captains and leaders with tainted eyes, and the undead being resurrected, we’re up against one tough foe.”

“God Chaose from the prophecy?” Lillin asked.

Grunt nodded in affirmation.

“We’ll wait here and see if the undead will come back. You should take this time to run and find a safe place to stay,” ordered Grunt.

The mother continued to cry. “There is nowhere else we could go. We’ll just try and live our normal lives on day time and hide here at night.”

“Poor lad,” Lillin said then hugged the woman. “Isn’t there anything we can do, Grunt?”

“We’ll stay here until midnight and wait if the undead are coming back,” Grunt said. “If they arrive, we have to defeat them and banish them from Uld forever!”

“You’re really a brave guy, Grunt. Let us prepare, then, for this huge battle,” Lillin remarked.

“Count me in!” shouted Leo.

The three adventurers stayed with the mother and her children inside her house and comforted the family from the loss of a husband and father. It was a very touching scene, very different from the vicious battle that’s going to happen that same night.

Chapter 18: Journey to the Village of the Humans

“I’m surprised that for a young kid like you, it didn’t take long for us to convince you to accompany us,” said Grunt.

“My destiny is to save Uld! How can I not want that?” replied Leo. “I will do my best and be a hero! My father is watching over me. I’ll make him proud.”

The three adventurers peacefully crossed the Field of Grasswind. It was a nice escape from the grueling battles and experiences that they have had during the past few days. The blades of grass are dancing beautifully with the wind, swaying their tips as if greeting the adventurers.

“It’s good that this field remains untainted by the filthy hands of the Discordians!” remarked Lillin.

Grunt nodded. “Indeed. It would have been a waste if such a calm land will be ruined by the enemy.”

“Hey! There’s the village of the humans!” Leo interrupted.

“It looks like the village is still safe,” Lillin said with relief.

When they are near the village, they noticed something is amiss. The village is extremely quiet and the smell of blood travels with the wind.

Lillin gasped. “It can’t be! Are we too late?”

“Seems to be that way. Let’s search the village and see if there are any survivors. Hurry!” Grunt ordered.

“Wait! These widgets can detect the electric current running from a live body. Let’s follow these.” Leo said.

The widget floated in the air and released a weak electric flash. It started to move forward so the three adventurers followed. The widget turned right after the second corner and went inside a small house. Afterwards, it went under a wooden table and stayed there. Leo and Grunt looked at each other in confusion while Lillin moved the table aside and knocked on the floor.

“Anyone there? I am Lillin, a Satyr travelling alongside my friends. If anyone is in there, please answer me.” Lillin said.

A few moments of silence passed, but after a while, the floor was lifted revealing a small compartment. A female human peeked and then went out, followed by her two children.

“Who are you? What happened outside?” asked the mother.

“We just came here and found a number of dead soldiers in your village. It seems that the village has already been abandoned.” Grunt replied. “Can you tell us what happened?”

Chapter 17: Endless Cold

“Ugh… where am I? Why is it so dark in here?” Chris’ voice echoed in the midst of a vast lightless void.

“Lillin? Grunt? Can anyone here me!?” he shouted. “This is probably just a dream.”

Chris hit himself hard but he did not feel anything.

“I knew it! This is a dream! But why does it feel so real?” Chris was so lost in thought.

A small light emanated from afar, and in a split second, everything became bright. When Chris opened his eyes, he found himself in an icy terrain surrounded by mountains. The ground is covered entirely with snow.

“From total darkness, now I’m in a snow-covered land. What the heck is happening? I still can’t feel a single thing!” Chris remarked to himself, slightly annoyed by what’s happening to him.

Chris started walking to look for a village where he can stay. After a few minutes of walking, dark clouds started to form. Chris knew that a blizzard is coming. He was right. Seconds later, strong winds built up. Temperature is getting lower and lower but Chris’ numb body couldn’t feel it. He found a small opening that looks like a cave and went inside.

For nine days and nine nights, the blizzard didn’t stop. Chris stayed inside the cave, without the feeling of cold, hunger, and thirst. The cold blizzard also blew away Chris’ anger, boredom, and all his emotions. He just lied inside the cave and waited for the blizzard to end.

When Chris woke up the next morning, his body was sore and his stomach was grumbling with so much pain.

“Aaaaarrgghhhhh!!!!!” Chris screamed from the sudden pain that he is feeling.

“So this must be what Grunt was telling me… On the tenth day, I will feel everything that my body should have felt during those nine days…”

Chris became like a madman. He punched the cave walls and banged his head in agony. His screams echoed inside the cave. It is a scream of pain nobody else has endured before.

“Is this the challenge you want, huh!? Lillin, just give me one day and I’ll be able to craft you a beautiful ice crystal.”

His body is shivering nonstop and the pain in his entire body is like a thousand needles piercing repeatedly through his skin. He let out a big, tormented shout and then he collapsed.

The third and final event which will happen on the third and fourth week of June is the "Online Bring Me" event. The details are shown below:
This should be a fun event since players will be asked to take a screenshot of the required scenario as quickly as possible. The first three players will win a protection aid and 5 luck potions! Chapter 16: The Second Destined Child

“Impossible! Could he be…” Grunt exclaimed.

Lillin nodded. “Probably.”

The two rushed towards the young Gremlin and checked if he’s alright. The villagers, on the other hand, were all confused but started to return to the village.

“Leo!” a beautiful female Gremlin ran towards Leo. It was his mother.

“He seems to be completely exhausted but he should be fine,” assured Grunt.

The female Gremlin hugged her child and carried him slowly to their house. Lillin and Grunt followed. The rest of the villagers went to mourn for their loved ones who have fallen to the hands of the raiders.

“Good afternoon, Madam, can we stay here as well?” asked Grunt. “We would like to ask a few things from your son once he has recovered.”

“I am Loreen. What are you going to ask? Maybe I can answer them for him,” the mother replied.

Lillin and Grunt looked at each other, then Grunt spoke, “I’m sure you’ve seen what your child did to save your village. We believe that your son is one of the destined children who can control one of the four elements.”

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” Loreen said. “The story of the destined children is just a legend. Nobody believes it.”

“Please believe us! One of our companions is a destined child. He can control the element of ice, an ability that has been long forgotten,” explained Lillin.

Loreen looked at her son. Finally she said, “Who are you? Why should I believe your stories?”

Grunt answered, “I am Grunt, one of the generals of the Cyclops. I am travelling with Lillin and a fellow named Chris who is one of the destined children. I was asked by our village chief to protect Chris and find the other destined children who are prophesied to save Uld…”

“Please I don’t want to hear any more!” the woman interrupted. “I just lost my husband and my son is trying his best to recover. I don’t want to hear any make-believe lore of the past.”

“I just lost my village, my friends, my comrades, and the village chief…” Grunt sadly recounted.

“What happened?” asked the female Gremlin.

Lillin responded, “Just like Steeltop, his village was also raided by the Discordians. However, unlike your village which was saved by your son, Ishrock was completely destroyed. The village chief used a spell that killed all the raiders, but also burned the village and its residents in the process.”

“I… I can’t believe it!” the mother gasped.

“It is true,” Grunt said. “The prophecy is happening and we need your son to help us protect everyone from the attack of the Discordians. Our village has already fallen and yours barely managed to carry on. We need the aid of the destined children to protect the other villages!”

“I don’t know what kind of destiny awaits my son, but I don’t want to lose him, not after losing my husband…” Loreen started to cry.

Lillin hugged Loreen. “We will do our best to protect him. Grunt and I are not one of the destined children but we have a firm resolve to protect what has been entrusted to us. Please believe in us, and more importantly, believe in your son. He is destined to protect Uld.”

Chapter 15: Electricity's Current

“Leo, run with the others and find a safe place,” said a grim-looking Gremlin. “Promise me that you’ll protect your mother.”

The teenage Gremlin shook his head. “No! I’ve been working so hard on my toys. I should be able to help! I’ll protect the village!”

“This is not a game, my son. You are still quite young to experience a grueling battle such as this,” the Gremlin’s father said. “My comrades will protect this village. You do your part to protect your mother and the other women and children. I have high hopes for you.”

Packs of wolves and giant bears are relentlessly raiding the village. Grunt and Lillin hurried towards Steeltop to protect the civilians. The battle near the front gate is so fierce, an untrained warrior would shiver just by looking at the battlefield.

“We have to hold our ground until all the villagers have safely evacuated! Fire at will!” shouted the Gremlin commander.

“Sir, there are still a lot of them! Our bullet supply won’t be enough!” said one Gremlin private.

The Gremlin commander gave a sad smile. “We won’t be able to kill all of them. All we can do is keep them from chasing our beloved families. Are you willing to do that, private?”

“Yes, sir!”

Lillin and Grunt approached the evacuating villagers at the rear gate, until they noticed that the Gremlin soldiers are slowly being overwhelmed. At a short distance came a shout.

“Father!!!!!”

It was Leo. His father was mercilessly killed by the wolves, and the other Gremlin soldiers suffered the same fate. It is only a matter of minutes before the raiders could catch up with the escaping villagers. In a desperate act, Leo ran towards the front gate.

“Wait, child, no!” Lillin shouted.

The boy did not hear Lillin, and instead continued running. When he was near the group of raiders, he threw several metal pieces which started to float.

“Are those… tiny widgets?” Lillin asked.

Almost immediately, the tiny pieces of metal started to conduct electricity.

“Father, I will avenge you!” was the tearful shout of the little Gremlin.

The electrical charges of the metal shards started to become larger and brighter. After a split second, the pieces gave a large discharge of electricity covering a huge area. All the wolves and bears were electrocuted and died. Leo fell down to the ground as the tiny pieces of metal started to fall one by one.

Chapter 14: Lillin

Grunt and Lillin traversed the think forest of Campwood to go to the next town.

“Sorry for dragging you out with me instead of letting you stay with Chris,” Grunt said. “There are reasons why I brought you with me.”

“Don’t worry. I need not be there with him. I’m sure he can handle himself,” Lillin replied.

Grunt smiled. “Thank you for the understanding. You are very different from him.”

“Haha. You just don’t know him so much yet,” said Lillin. “He probably has a bad temper, but that’s because he grew up with so much hatred against the fire goblins and the Cyclops.”

“Because of what happened in Seren…” Grunt remarked.

“Yes. But don’t blame yourself,” Lillin assured. “I noticed that he’s starting to change after he learned the truth about the incident and after killing the fire goblin’s leader.”

Lillin continued, “Chris is a really nice guy. He looks tough on the outside, but he’s actually very kind towards his closest friends. The reason why I’m still alive is because of him.”

“What happened?” asked Grunt.

“I grew up without parents. I usually just wander from town to town and hope for some people to give me food or money,” Lillin narrated. “Then one day, I met a boy who treated me kindly. He was so fond of my horns and my nose. He would usually give me candies and food that he hid from his parents so that he could give them to me.”

“And that boy is Chris?” Grunt asked.

Lillin nodded. “We became close friends that’s why I stayed in their town. Finally, he introduced me to his surrogate parents, and they’ve decided to adopt me. That was the best day of my life.”

“I see. So that’s why you always talk about this debt whenever you save him from an enemy.”

“It’s more than just paying a debt,” Lillin smiled. “Chris became very close to me that I simply want to protect him so long as I’m alive.”

The two adventurers reached the end of the forest and saw that Steeltop, the village of the Gremlins, is being attacked.

“Just as expected, they are attacking the main villages of the Humans, Cyclops, Satyrs, and Gremlins!” Grunt exclaimed. “Lillin, your mission now is not just to protect Chris, but to protect everyone! Let us help the resistance until Chris finishes his training.”

“With nature’s providence! I will protect Chris, and all the things that he’s destined to protect!” Lillin said with confidence.

Chapter 13: The Test

“Am I really capable of doing that?” Chris asked.

“I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t see it with my own eyes.” Grunt replied. “You killed Purete using your ice ability. Although it seems that you can’t consciously control it yet.”

“So where are we going?” Chris inquired again.

“To a place where you could train your ability,” was Grunt’s short reply.

The three adventurers traversed the dense forest of Campwood. After an hour of walking, they heard calm splashes of water.

Grunt looked at the two others, “We’re near.”

As they continued walking, they saw a beautiful waterfall. Colorful flowers outlined the area and there is no blade of grass, greener than the grass within the vicinity. The water is so clear, one could see even a tiny pebble at the bottom of the lake.

“This is the Waterfall of Curse and Clarity,” Grunt said. “It is a waterfall known only to a few Cyclops.”

“This waterfall is rather mysterious,” Lillin remarked. “Water continuously falls from above but the water below forms a small lake and not a river. Why isn’t it overflowing?”

“Even I don’t know the answer to that. This waterfall is full of mysteries,” Grunt answered.

Chris then said, “I suppose it contains other mysteries that’s why we’re here? Unless of course you dragged us here to sightsee.”

Slightly irritated, Grunt replied, “It is not called Curse and Clarity for nothing. In the islet in the middle of the lake, you have to stay still for ten days. You cannot eat, drink, sleep…”

“What!?” Chris exclaimed. “How am I going to survive for ten days without those?”

“If you are really one of the destined children, you will not feel anything during the first nine days,” Grunt explained. “The waterfall is supposed to clear your mind and be able to let you control your ability at will.”

“You said I have to stay there for ten days. So what will happen to me on the tenth day?” asked Chris.

Grunt’s tone became very serious. “The first nine days will only test if you’re a destined child. The tenth day will test if you are strong enough to control your ability. As I said, you won’t feel anything on the first nine days, but on the tenth day, you will feel everything your body has gone through during those nine days. Also, it is said that the pain would be thrice as much.”

“Sounds tough,” Chris said. “But if it’s my destiny, I will take the test and be able to complete it. Lillin, just watch me. I’ll make a wonderful pillar of ice once I’m done with this.”

“We’re not staying here,” Grunt said. “We don’t have the luxury of time to wait for your training to finish. We’ll move ahead to the surrounding village and help with the resistance.”

“Good luck, Chris! May nature’s blessing be with you,” Lillin said.

Chris walked towards the lake, and almost immediately, a narrow path made of soil and clay appeared. The path led to the islet. Grunt and Lillin then left and went to the nearest village.

Chapter 12: A Fiery Mark of Beginning

“What happened? You look upset,” Lillin asked Grunt when they finally caught up with each other.

“We have to leave this place as soon as possible,” Grunt replied. “The village cannot be saved. Let’s hurry and find a safe place.”

Lillin was troubled. “Why are you just leaving your village like that? Tell us what happened.”

“I’ll explain everything once we…” Grunt was interrupted by a strong tremor.

After a few seconds, a thick pillar of fire burst out from the direction of Ishrock. Lillin and Chris saw the massive spectacle, while Grunt couldn’t even look back.

“What kind of powerful spell is that?” Chris asked in astonishment.

“It’s the scroll of Volcanic Embers,” Grunt replied. “It’s a spell that only the Chief knows how to use. It draws some of the fire out of Uld’s core, and incinerates everything within a 50-meter radius.”

“But… what will happen to the caster?” Lillin asked.

“As I said, the spell burns everything within its range. That includes all the village raiders, but also the Chief, the other Cyclops warriors, and the village of Ishrock.”

Lillin let out a gasp. Even Chris was silenced by what he has just heard.

“At any rate,” Grunt continued, “this is not the time to mourn. We have to go to the next village. They are also probably being invaded by the Discordians.”

“I’m sorry but what’s the three of us going to do against hordes of enemies?” Chris said in a sarcastic manner.

“Did the death of the goblin leader and the fulfillment of your revenge make you a coward, now?” Grunt retorted.

“Your Chief used a strong spell that incinerated the whole village of Ishrock just to kill those nutheads!” Chris exclaimed. “What can we possibly have to protect any village from being attacked?”

“We have you,” Grunt said.

“Me?” Chris seemed confused.

Grunt sighed. “In as much as I don’t like entrusting the fate of Uld to an ill-tempered adventurer, I will have to trust what the Chief told me that you are one of the destined children.”

“You mean the one in the legends who can control one of the four elements?” Lillin interrupted.

“Yes,” then Grunt looked at Chris. “You possess the power to manipulate ice, one of the three forgotten elemental magic. The Chief asked me to help you in your adventures to become stronger, and to find the other three destined children who will save Uld from the Discordians.”

Chapter 11: The Final Command

On the way back to Ishrock, the group of adventurers noticed black smoke coming again from the direction of the village. They all hurried back, although they couldn’t travel very fast because Chris is still very weak and exhausted from the last encounter.

“Lillin, you take care of Chris and follow,” Grunt said. “I have to hurry back! I have to know what’s happening to my village!”

Lillin nodded. “I understand. Hurry now! May nature’s blessing be with you.”

Grunt hurried to his village while Lillin slowly walked with Chris. The battle seems to be very intense as the war cry and gunshots echo across Dustwind Valley.

“Hold your ground mighty Cyclops! Smite anyone who dares stain our village!” shouted one of the Cylcops captains.

Ishrock is being overrun by a much larger number of yetis and ice wolves. Casualties were minimal during the previous battle, but this one is different. Bodies of dead Cyclops lay alongside several of the killed raiders. When Grunt finally reached the village, he went straight to the village chief. He saw the village chief, preparing a scroll that contains sealed spells.

Grunt exclaimed, “The Scroll of Volcanic Embers! Chief, you can’t possibly be…”

“Yes I am,” the Chief interrupted. “The Discordians are wreaking havoc all over Uld. It is only a matter of time before our village is overrun.”

“No! We will protect this village!”

Gorlon sighed, “Brave warrior, it is inevitable. I have kept this scroll for this very moment. This moment when all villages will be attacked by the Discordians, and only a few brave souls will be able to suppress it.”

Grunt shook his head. “I don’t understand!”

“How was your journey with the human? Is my intuition correct?” Gorlon asked.

“Yes. Chris was able to manipulate the element of ice, but he doesn’t know yet how to use it properly.” Grunt replied.

Gorlon smiled. “I see. Chris, is indeed a destined child. According to the legends, four heroes will emerge, each controlling one of the four elements. Even the three elements, long-forgotten by many generations, will be revived. They will be the ones who will save Uld from the Discordians.”

Grunt remained silent. He couldn’t understand what the Chief was trying to tell.

“Where are your companions? Leave the village and go with them. Your task is to guide the destined child so that he’ll grow strong.” Gorlon ordered. “In your adventures, you may find the other three destined children who will save Uld. Promise me this, valiant warrior.”

“I understand,” Grunt replied.

Gorlon continued, “Go now! Meet with your new friends and be strong! The fires from this scroll will put a scar in the face of Uld that will never be forgotten. It will also mark the start of the four heroes’ destinies.”

Grunt ran back towards the direction of his companions. He slew the ice wolves and yetis that blocked his way. It was a sad moment for him to leave the chief and his village, knowing the fiery outbreak that will spell their demise. But the brave warrior moved forward, carrying with him his Chief’s last command.

Chapter 10: Clear as a Crystal

Chris whirled his sword in the air and the ice fragments floating around his body bonded together and formed a sharp icy spear. He dropped his shield and formed signs with his fingers. Slowly, water from the cavern formed two pillars that intersected Purete’s hands and feet. With a snap of his fingers, Chris froze the water and turned it into thick ice. He waved his sword and pointed it towards Purete. Almost immediately, the spear flew towards the dreadful goblin, and pierced through its body.

Chris fainted due to exhaustion, but the icy pillars kept the dead body of Purete in standing position. All the other fire goblins became disorganized and started to run. Lillin, on the other hand, recovered consciousness and looked around.

“Chris!” she exclaimed when she saw Chris lying in the middle of the room.

“Don’t worry,” said Grunt. “I think he’s fine.”

“What happened?” asked Lillin.

Grunt slowly positioned Chris in sitting position on a huge rock.

“It is like what the Chief told me,” Grunt began. “The Chief noticed Chris’ ability during his last attack that killed Priotus. Your companion knows how to control the element of ice.”

Lillin looks confused. “I don’t understand. Control of the other elements was lost several years ago. The only ancient magic that was passed to us is manipulation of the fire element. How can this be possible?”

“I couldn’t believe the Chief as well,” Grunt said. “But when I saw Chris, controlling the element of ice, I realized that it is true. However, it seems that he cannot fully control his powers yet.”

Lillin looked at Purete’s dead body. “Such thick wall of ice! Even when the caster is unconscious, the ice remains solid.”

“Indeed. Let us wait here and let Chris recover,” Grunt remarked. “Using that ability may have drained out most of his energy.”

“Yes. There is no reason to hurry. I am sure the burden of revenge has been lifted from Chris with the death of the fire goblin’s leader.” Lillin said with content.

Grunt sat down to rest while Lillin continued to observe the ice spectacle. Looking at Purete, she suddenly stopped.

“Not again! Something’s wrong!” Lillin exclaimed.

Grunt immediately stood up and asked, “What’s the matter?”

Lillin shook her head. “Look at his eyes! It has the same black stripes as the bear that we killed on our way to Ishrock.”

“Now that you mention it, I noticed that Priotus’ eyes were different too.” Grunt mentioned. “We have to go back to the chief! We have a lot to tell him.”

Chapter 9: The Hidden Talent Revealed

“Dieeee!!!!!” Chris’ scream resounded with fury.

Fire goblins fell to the ground one by one with every swing of Chris’ sword. Grunt, on the other hand, slowly pounded his opponents to the ground. Lillin maintained a safe distance and shot any goblin that tried to go near.

As more goblins came into the room, Chris ran immediately towards their leader to quickly finish it off. The goblins quickly surrounded him to protect their leader.

“Slicing dervish!” Chris shouted while whirling his sword.

The attack killed all the goblins around him. He then dashed towards the leader, but Purete used its fire magic to fend Chris off.

“Chris!” Lillin shouted with worry.

“I’m fine!” Chris shouted back, but he’s suffering from major burns.

The two couldn’t help him because of the sheer number of fire goblins in the room. Purete prepared to cast his deadliest fire attack and aimed it at Chris. After a few seconds, fiery rocks fell from the ceiling of the cavern and fell straight at Chris.

“Chris, no!!!” Lillin screamed.

She charged her remaining mana to fire her ultimate attack.

“Electric cannon!”

Several bursts of electricity came from her rifle and killed most of the fire goblins in the room. She then slowly fell on her feet due to exhaustion. Grunt rushed towards her to protect her from the other goblins that are still alive.

On the other hand, the rocks that fell at Chris started to move and the flames started to freeze. Slowly, cracks from the rocks appeared, and broke into pieces. Grunt couldn’t believe what he just saw.

“Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!” Chris’s voice echoed again in the entire room.

His body is covered with white smoke and small shards of ice are floating around him. He looks very calm, yet his power is much greater than before.

“It can’t be! The chief is right…” Grunt exclaimed.

Chapter 8: Calming of the Waves

“So before we reach the Cavern of Firefall, we have to pass through Dustwind Valley, right?” Chris asked for confirmation.

Lillin replied, “Yes, which means that we probably need to kill the green goblins first before we reach your real enemy. Let’s proceed silently and keep confrontations at a minimum.”

“Who cares? Green or fire, they’re all goblins and they are all enemies. Let’s kill whichever goblin is on sight,” Chris arrogantly said.

“I’m taking back what I said to you before,” Grunt intervened. “It seems that you did not inherit your father’s courage. You are just plain stupid and arrogant.”

Chris retorted, “Coming from a war-freak Cyclops? You’re just following us so keep out of this conversation.”

Chris continued walking. Lillin briefly talked to Grunt and apologized for Chris’ behavior. They followed him shortly after. While striding through the scorching heat of the valley, the two noticed that Chris is walking very carefully, cautious of his surroundings. Lillin and Grunt looked at each other with a smile.

“Stop!” Chris suddenly but silently exclaimed.

A group of green goblins walked through a narrow passage, and then disappeared from sight. Lillin and Grunt became even more astonished and intrigued, but they went ahead without uttering a single word. After a few hours of careful travelling, the three successfully passed through Dustwind Valley without being seen by the enemy.

“There’s the Cavern of Firefall,” Lillin said.

Chris looked back and gave a smile.

The three travelers carefully entered the cavern. Inside, they saw fire goblins that are busy mining something from the site. Confrontation is inevitable. They rushed towards the goblins and killed as many as they can before the goblins could alert their leader. They pushed deeper and deeper into the cavern until they came upon a huge room.

Waiting for them are several fire goblins, and their leader Purete. The size of their leader is almost ten times the size of a normal fire goblin. Chris, however, is so determined, he didn’t even show a sign of fear.

Chris and Grunt ran towards the horde, while Lillin stayed at the back to support them.

Chapter 7: Moving Forward

Chris and Lillin prepared to set out early the next morning. The sun shone beautifully. The village went back to its calm and peaceful state, as if no battle occurred just the day before.

“Aaaahh… it’s time to leave,” Lillin cheerfully said. “This is such a nice place, but the cold wind is too much for my skin.”

“Yeah…” Chris gave a weak reply.

Lillin felt sorry for Chris and gave him a hug. “It’s going to be alright, Chris.”

“All this time, I believed that the Cyclops abandoned us. My anger for them was just as much as my anger towards the fire goblins,” Chris said. “I can’t believe that I was wrong all along.”

“Where’s the strong-hearted Chris that I knew for a long time?” asked Lillin. “I’m sure the Chris that I know will just charge forward and kill fire goblins instead of thinking about something unnecessary.”

Chris let out a small smile. “Was that a compliment or an insult? Anyway, you’re right. Now I’ll definitely make sure there’s no fire goblin left in Uld before I die!”

Grunt and Gorlon went out of the house and saw Chris and Lillin.

“Leaving already?” asked Grunt.

“Yes. There’s no more reason for us to stay here,” replied Chris.

“I’ll come with you,” Grunt said.

Chris and Lillin were both surprised. Chris then asked, “Why are you coming with us? You don’t even know where we’re going.”

“I don’t have to know where. I just know that you’re going out to kill the fire goblins,” Grunt said. “I’ll help you. That’s what the village chief wants.”

Chris smiled, “If you’re going to help us, then you’re welcome to join. Just make sure you kill more than you eat. Haha.”

“Good luck with your journey, young ones,” Gorlon said. Then, he went to Grunt and said, “Farewell warrior. Remember what I told you last night.”

The three warriors walked towards the west, to follow the rumor about the fire goblin leader’s whereabouts. All of them are aware of the danger that’s coming to them, but they are all walking bravely, each with personal goals in mind.

Chapter 6: Revelations

The yetis and the grass goblins became disorganized after the fall of their leader. They ran at all directions, which made it easy for the humans and Cyclops to kill them one at a time. After a few minutes, the village of Ishrock was devoid of living yeti and goblins. Many of the raiders were able to run, but many have also fallen and will just remain a footnote of this battle’s history.

“Long live the village chief!” shouted the Cyclops. “For Ishrock!”

There was a huge celebration that night. The humans and Cyclops ate and drank to their heart’s content. Amidst the celebration, was a house filled with intense conversation.

“I have helped save the village,” said Chris. “Now you have a lot to answer!”

Gorlon spoke calmly, “What is it young one?”

“The town of Seren!” Chris angrily answered. “Why did the Cyclops forsake our village?”

“So you are Chris, the sole survivor in the town of Seren… The Cyclops did not forsake your village.” said Gorlon.

“We got the request from your town,” Grunt said. “It was I who headed the reinforcement squad and we immediately departed as soon as we got your request. Unfortunately, we were ambushed by a group of fire goblins. They were expecting us to come.”

Chris listened intently.

Grunt continued, “We are a strong race. We annihilated the ambush group, but it was able to delay our arrival.”

“Delay?” Chris retorted. “You didn’t even arrive!”

“You were a small child back then,” said Gorlon. “If our reinforcement didn’t come, you wouldn’t be standing in front of us at this very moment.”

“We are very sorry for what happened to your village. We were too late to save it, but not yet too late to save you. It was I who knocked you unconscious when you tried to attack the fire goblins. Even as a child, you certainly have the courage of your father,” Grunt explained. “My squad quickly dispatched the fire goblins that stayed in your village, then took you to a neighboring town. Your surrogate mother, Elsa, should still remember me.”

After hearing this, Chris slowly stood up and walked outside. Lillin followed him, and they both stared at the night sky.

Gorlon, on the other hand, spoke to Grunt. “He is indeed the descendant of the ancients…”

Chapter 5: The Battle Rages

A platoon of human soldiers marched towards Ishrock, and brought hope to the village. Strengthened by the arrival of reinforcements, the Cyclops warriors let out a huge war cry.

“For Ishrock!!” shouted the noble Cyclops warriors.

With hundreds of soldiers rushing towards the village, the yetis and the grass goblins started to become overwhelmed. The Cyclops and the humans banded together in perfect unison to overcome the threat. After hours of nonstop fighting and when victory seemed to be at hand, the leader of the raiders appeared. Walking slowly at a distance is Priotus, a twenty five-feet tall yeti.

“A yeti of that size only means that he’s the leader, I suppose?” Chris jokingly remarked, amazed by the huge specie coming towards their direction.

“His name is Priotus, second in command in the Uriak tribe,” said Grunt.

Chris was even more amazed! “You mean this big guy is just second in command?”

“Yes. The leader of the Uriak tribe is bigger and bulkier, not to mention that the Uriak tribe is one of the smaller yeti tribes here in Icepeaks,” explained Grunt.

“Heh! That doesn’t matter,” Chris arrogantly replied. “I’m going to kill this big guy and squeeze the answers out of your village chief!”

Chris dashed towards Priotus and killed all yetis that stood in his way.

“There he goes again,” Lillin let out a sigh.

As if forced to protect him, Lillin and Grunt followed Chris. With pinpoint accuracy, the gentle but deadly Satyr, shot dead the sneaky goblins who tried to kill Chris from behind. Chris, on the other hand, continued rushing and lunged an aerial sword attack to the yeti’s leader. Intrigued by his little aggressor, Priotus brushed Chris off with a single hand. Chris fell hard on the snowy ground.

“Chris!!” yelled Lillin, and fired three quick bullets to the yeti’s body.

The yeti was unaffected and continued walking towards the house of the village chief. The other Cyclops warriors and human soldiers went to attack him, but all their efforts were in vain.

“I’m not yet done with you!” shouted Chris.

He ran towards Priotus and jumped. With a sword in his hand, he stabbed the yeti at the back of its head. Priotus let out a cry of pain and finally fell down, dead.

“Impossible! Is that…?” the village chief couldn’t believe what he just saw. Nobody else noticed, but for him, it was as clear as the flowing river.
